At Domus, we know a thing or two about helping girls and women succeed. As a certified Women Business Enterprise (WBE), it’s an integral part of who we are. It’s also why we feel privileged to work with organizations like Girls Inc., whose mission is to inspire girls to be smart, strong, and bold.
Women have made important strides in the workplace, and we’re exhilarated by the leadership potential and lives changed through organizations like Girls Inc. But there’s more to do. Although women’s representation in the corporate pipeline – from entry level to C-suite – has been continually improving, women are still significantly underrepresented in the highest levels of leadership. Considering these are positions that require high levels of confidence and self-assuredness, the challenge may be starting earlier than we think: A 2018 survey by The Atlantic found that between ages 8 and 14, girls’ confidence drops 30%.
It’s realities such as these that prompt our ongoing support of girls and women whenever and however we can. Domus recently hosted members of the Girls Inc. Eureka! program for an immersive, day-long career exploration seminar. Based on our time with this impressive group of rising tenth graders, we are happy to report the future is bright!
After introductions, icebreakers, and an overview of Domus and our work, the girls broke into groups and created their own launch plans for fictional products. They strategized about messaging, created social media posts, produced a 30-second promotional video, designed advertising campaigns, and more. The creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, and leadership they displayed knocked our socks off! We’re confident there will be many happy clients and delighted employers in the years to come!
You may be wondering how you can be a part of the solution too. Here are some practical ways you can partner with women and girls to show your support and help create more opportunities and greater equity.
Support Organizations that Focus on Girls
Nonprofits like Girls Inc. teach girls to value themselves, take risks, gain leadership experience, and more. They can always use dedicated volunteers to share their knowledge and time. Monetary donations are always welcome too!
