If you live in a Super Tuesday state, did your employer do anything to encourage and facilitate your participation in today’s primaries? The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) hopes to make that answer “yes” for a lot more people in the coming months.
As outlined in a recent article in USA Today, the BPC has launched a campaign encouraging organizations to use their internal communications to mobilize employees this election season. They suggest companies provide information about how to vote and urge managers to arrange schedules so that employees are able to vote and even volunteer at the polls. Two major organizations – Starbucks and Marriott – are involved as charter members, with many more partners to come.
Promoting citizenship is a growing trend in employee engagement. It is likely especially effective among Millennials, who value organizations with a sense of purpose and social good. Encouraging your employees to participate in the election is a great way for a company to communicate that it values giving back to society. Other strategies to consider include corporate social responsibility programs, corporate volunteering and other service activities.
